I very happy to announce that I picked up my chickens today, (after a 3 hour car ride

) and eveyone is safe and sound in their new coop. :aww I do have a question though. At what age is a hen not considered a pullet anymore?

These birds are 8 months. So are they pullets yets? Or hens?
After all the research I've done I can't seem to remember reading and age group cut-off.

Hello,
A pullet is from about egg laying age-4 mos. or so til 1 year old if I remember correctly. Chicken ownership is fun and wonderful.
Best wishes with your girls!

They are pullets...congrats on your new girls.

Females under a year old are called pullets. Over a year old are considered hens.

Males under a year old are called cockerels. Over a year old are roosters.

Good luck with them.

Jody
