We have 7 chickens and 5 are now laying. This morning, one egg was found without a shell...membrane and insides, but no shell. They are eating a Purina brand laying crumble mix that has the calcium and grit all incorporated in the feed. Is this normal for the young layers or ones trying out the plumbing, or is this more serious?

I think pullets when they just start laying can tend to have eggs like that. I've had a few in some of my hens and they are weird! It's usually nothing to be worried about.

My first thought was when did they start laying with clothes on and where can I get me some of that breed.

But seriously, they are just working out a glitch in their system. I get them and I really hate when it dries on the other "non-naked" eggs.
