We got this Super small Egg today?

My ladies just started laying about a month ago and all of their Eggs have been wonderful; but today we got this super, small, round egg with calcium deposits on it.

Do you know which hen laid the tiny egg? Do you have any aging hens, six years or older, that are still laying? That egg is typical of a layer that is getting old.

We got an egg like that from a young hen, it was so cute!!!

Looks like a fairy/fart egg. We get them from time to time. Unless you have some bantams?

We get one or two a month that look like that...whoever I have that lays them (13 pullets), it even has a tiny yolk inside! I've had other hens in the past lay them with no yolk though.

They all just started laying about a month ago. They are 7-8mos old now

That's normal for chickens that just started laying. I got a couple of those when my girls first started laying so nothing to worry about!

Usually, for POL, the eggs start tiny, and they get incrementally larger each time until they reach full size. It's unusual that the eggs get smaller from the first ones. But anything goes with new layers. Don't be concerned.

Probably just a glitch.

Fairy, fart, wind, rooster eggs are usually from a tiny piece of tissue breaking loose from the reproductive tract, or an immature ova(yolk) and the body forms an egg around it. Color can be darker than 'normal' as the pigment coating released has to cover a much smaller area so is thicker. Can happen with any age layer, but more common with older layers.

I've gotten a couple little eggs like this also. Ist batch never had anything like this, then after my 2nd batch started laying, it was a good 2 months & I got a couple, at different times.
I called them "chicken fart"
