We actually had to mount the chicken door inside of the aluminum coop because of the way our coop is set up…
Anyways, we programmed it on a timer to open at a certain time in the morning and close at a certain time at night, it works amazing and the chickens love it.

Do you have some photos of your coop and setup to share?
I've always been a bit skeptical of the automatic doors. I'm afraid of it closing after a raccoon or opossum sneaks in, or locking a chicken out who was late for bedtime. Having a manual pop-door just ensures I check the birds first thing in the morning and when they settle in for the night.

Ditto.
