We've been using a heavy duty iron mesh dog box for a duck house for three years, but I wanted a second house ...something country-ish and pretty. When a fellow duck owner posted the house her Husband built I showed it to my husband. He cranked up the sawmill and cut up one of our cypress logs and this is what we built with it. Now to get it into the duck pen, I bet this weighs almost 200 lbs LOL Good thing we have a big tractor to carry it with!

Wow thats so pretty. Wounder how long it takes to get dirty? lol Butifullll job.

ooooh I love it. Great job! I'm gonna be in need of a second duck house soon! I think i will show this pic to my hubby hehe.

I'm thrilled with it! On the right hand side there is a door the whole depth of the house that I can open for cleaning. On the left hand side, the roof on the house lifts up and the roof on the nesting box lifts up. The ducky door on front of the screened in porch closes and locks to keep them all safe at night. I hope your Husband builds one for you, you'll love it!

We built the base so that we can put the tractor straps under it, we'll then wrap the straps around the forks of the tractor and carry the house down to the duck pen that way.

LOL Missy, well my Jumbo Pekin alone could dirty it up in about 1 minute ;-)

Your husband did a wonderful job. There is only two little issues with it in regards to predator proofing it. The veranda seems to have screen material on it. I would cover it with hardware cloth to make it safer. Then there are the vent holes. The ones near the top are large and I worry about rats or minks getting in. Adding some hardware cloth from inside will fix this issue and you won't really notice the metal either.

The vent holes are all covered on the inside with hardware cloth. The porch itself is wrapped in hardware cloth as well, the hardware cloth is stapled to the framing and then trim was added on top to sandwich the hardware cloth.

Oh wonderful. It wasn't visible in the first images and it really looked like screen material in the picture. Your ducks will be so pampered.
