we just got chicks.. i need help with marking

so we just bought 12 chicks about 3 weeks all pullets as we where told.

i want to be able to mark them what would be the best to use.

i have no idea what to use never had chicks before when i first got chickens they where a year old already i didn't have to do anything with them..

and if you guys would like i can post picks of them we have 4 barred rocks, 1 easter egger ( i think ) and 7 new hampshire reds.

I've used Halloween hair spray paint, applied to a Q-tip and then onto their little heads or backs, but it wears off much too quickly (and was fairly stinky).
