Sorry for posting twice today - but I am still learning and seem to always have a lot of questions. I was stupid and I got a flat panel heater for my coop because my small, lowest on the pecking order hen who none of the others like had a late molt. She was just starting to molt when the temps went to freezing and nobody lets her perch with them so she is alone on a perch. Then I had my 9 week olds in another coop with a heat pad. Did that to gradually adapt them from my garage to outside. Now the 9 week olds are in with the other ladies for tonight and last night. Last night the little guys perched on an altogether different perch but tonight they decided to sleep in a nesting box in the same coop as the 4 big girls. I have a total of 7. 4 adults and 3 9.5 weeks. Tonight I decided to turn off the heat because I know it isn't a good idea. it will be like 32 tonight. Is it dangerous to go from them being used to a flat panel/ heat pad to nothing in one night?
