The last few days my chickens are acting strange when I let them out to free range.

They are all moving about in one tight clump.

My 3 roosters, some half grown chicks, and the adult hens are all squashing themselves together and moving about as one unit.

Its so funny to see. I have 14 chickens in total, with 3 hens that are sitting on eggs in the coop.

Any ideas why they are doing this huddling together thing?

Back in the coop they act normal again.

Is it possible there is a predator lurking that you can't see?? Sue

    Maybe............

They have been getting pestered by a coucal which sometimes steals an egg or 2. But this bird has been about for years and they have not acted like that before. Usually when it is flying overhead the chickens just stand still and let out an annoyed scream.

I will have to see tomorrow if there is anything else about. Maybe its a snake? I have seen one basking on my driveway and its been eating my goldfish in the pond.
