Okay so we have a Barred Rock Rooster and when I was feeding him today I noticed something weird. One feather on his tail Is Pitch black and shiny green (much like an australorp) on the first half, Then it returns to the normal patterning the second half...huh....

It's a normal thing for hatchery stock.

My hatchery barred rock has several solid colored feathers on his tail. Not sure about the half and half, he's molting like crazy now and has no tail, poor guy[IMG]

Its normal for hatchery Barred Rocks (and even show-quality Barred Rocks) to have different colored feathers. Some birds have black feathers scattered throughout their body, or even orange or brown feathers.

In answer to your second question, there might be more feathers like this on his tail. Just look through it, and see if you see any. [IMG]
