I have a Silkie hen who.p I have separated for an injury laid an egg this morning but there was an extremely thin shell and it collapsed. The yolk was visible and coming out one side of the shell. What is this and what does it mean?

Shell-less eggs can be common in some chickens, especially in new layers. However, I have a hen who was severely injured in an attack last year, and apparently, her shell gland was damaged. She was my best layer, and had never had an abnormal egg before. Hopefully, your hen will improve. My hen is doing very well otherwise, seems completely healed, except that her soft rubbery egg each day gets broken by her or her flockmates, making a mess of the nest box.
