I just went out an hour or so ago to go around and check on my birds and when I got to my silkie pen, I saw that most of them were out of their shelter and in the run as far from the shelter as they can get, I looked up at the shelter and saw my dog was sniffing around it and I knew something was up then, so I shined my light inside and saw on of the silkies laying flat on the ground and not movings, now this is just as small shelter that is pushed up to a small run just for (now) 4 silkies. Anyway I went around and beat on the side of the shelter and to see if maybe the chicken was asleep and because sometimes one or two of them do sleep on the floor. so when I went around to the front to see if it had moved ( it hadn't ) that's when I saw the possom in the other corner. So I ran in to get my 22 and came back and this little shelter is only open at the side that slides up to the coop and I couldn't slid it back without the possom running out, so I had to make a sniper shot from the far end of the run, through and to the back of the shelter and hit the possom with the second shot. Then I slid the shelter back and saw that it was the black silkie roo that he had killed, he just ate his head, so for good measure, I shot the possom in the head again too. So I still have a white roo and three hens, they're just PQ silkies, mainly for broodies so I'm not too heartbroken over it, I'm just glad I got him this time while this was his first one that I know of. So just so you all know, the world has one less chicken killin varmit tonight.
Oh and if'in any a yalls is wants ta come have supper with us, we's fixin chickin n possom, so brang ya mama n'em on over n gitcha sum.
Just kidding, we rarely eat our own chickens, let alone a nasty ole possom.
