    Hi,
Our well water is very high in calcium so I have not been giving any to my pullets. They are now 15 weeks old. When is it safe to give it to them? Should I wait until they start laying or was I just being too neurotic and they would have been fine with the well water anyway?

Quote:My well water is high in calcium also, during the winter I carry well water to the chickens and they do fine. During the summer when they drink rain water from the roof catch (see my BYC page) I will occasionally get soft shelled eggs if I don't add oyster shell to their diet.

I don`t think it should be a problem. Just as long as you are not supplementing them with extra calcium they should be ok.

My well water is high in calcium also. (don't you just love the white coating on stuff?) My chicks drink it from day 1 with no problems.

I'm on well water too. I add ACV to their water which helps in calcium absorption and lower gut ph.
