I have 2 Welsh Harlequin drakes and 3 hens over a year old. My hens have been laying for several months now and one hen is finally sitting (yay)! My question is the drakes feathers are changing colors and I don't know why. They have always been the typical dark colors of this breed but have started changing colors to the much lighter color of the hens. Their heads and necks are turning white and their bodies are much lighter. It's pretty hot here in Tennessee now. Is this just them adapting to the hot weather? Their not molting I don't think cause their not losing any feathers. Other than the color change they are acting perfectly fine. Eating and drinking and mating aa usual. Can someone chime in and give me an opinion please? Thanks.

I know that molting male wild ducks change color to look like females, because they can't fly as well while molting and need to blend in. Yours could be doing the same thing.
You said you found no feathers. Maybe they change color before they molt?

Best of luck!

That could be it. I'm not worried about them because they're otherwise perfectly normal. I wad just wondering if anyone else had experienced this. Thanks for the reply!
