We (SO and I) will be picking up 4 sexed chicks (Black Australorp) this weekend! We are very excited! This past weekend, we built the interiors of our coop and plan to complete the run as we raise them; the coop is within an existing shed in our yard.

We have never had chickens and are excited about this new adventure. Attached are photos of the coop (nearly complete).

The basics of our design came from combing the forums here: 2 laying boxes, 6 inch clearance for a litter tray on one side, 4' x 4' footprint within the shed, etc.

We would love to see your ideas for keeping the chicken door securely closed at night, hear any comments on ventilation, and a permanent and mobile run.

So far we've kept the cost under $200 and can't wait to pick up our chicks.

Thanks in advance and for all of the advice you've given in last posts!
