What a surprize I got !!!

Well something, got my buckeye rooster last night. thru 2in welded wire. found him at 10 pm. Head hanging out with the skin rip from his neck. Looks like a coon kill to me.

Move my live trap that was bait with eggs. Place it so the back was at the rooster head. This way the coon would have to go in the trap to get at the rooster.

Will went back out to check the trap. WOW NOT A COON, its a GREAT HORN OWL !!
Yes had to release it, but this is a first for me.
Its as big as a coon . Fill up the trap.

Wow, he is GORGEOUS! I am sorry you lost your rooster, I am still leaning towards a coon only because it is the one predator I have heard of that takes off heads while trying to pull the bird through the wires.

I have had owls too. He has the "deer in the headlights" look!!!

no sure it was the owl, it came back with a few hours,maybe sooner. The rooster was next to the wire. Didnt move it at all just the trap.
Oh i was thinking coon. No it didnt take off the head, just skin off the neck.
Checkout those feet huge!!!
