What age do you leave chicks outside during the day?

Availability of 80 degrees at 2 weeks, but certainly cool areas in the brooder. I think checking behavioral patterns is what determines the correct temps. If there are 10+ chicks then they can pile on each other and live in cold temps, but that does not mean they are thriving.

Direct sunlight can cause dramatic rise in temperature. The towel was a good idea.

At 2 weeks old, they can probably tolerate down to 30F or so for a period of time before needing to warm back up. Ideally if you want to have them outside to acclimate to cooler temps, having some sort of shelter against wind would be ideal, as well as either some sort of heat source, or a good amount of straw or other material to huddle in to help trap body heat.

At 55F they should safely be able to play for an hour or two without needing to warm back up.
