i vote chuckar!

used to raise quail, chuckar and pheasants. almost positive its a chuckar. prolly red legged variety, they are the most common. be sure to keep a close eye on it tho, partridge are a buggar to get thru the first 2 weeks. once you hit your 2 week mark be ready for a flighty little guy/gal. they can be tamed but it takes a lot of patience and treats

It looks exactly like the chukar photo! So I think that is it, plus I live in an area where there could conceivably be chukars.

To answer other questions: yes, I am keeping him/her/it warm under a heat lamp. I have no other chicks, but I plan to see if the chick and my three-month old silkie pullet could be pals, though that will have to wait until the chick can regulate its own heat. The chick didn't belong to the feed store, there was no nest close by the store that I could tell- and the little guy was/is so tiny, I have no idea how he/she/it could have gone far. No one in the store wanted anything to do with him/her/it, and I couldn't just leave him/her/it there to die. So I am caring for the little guy.

I really am trying not to get too attached, as I know it may not live. Anyone have advice on how to care for a chukar chick? I'm feeding it chick feed, supplemented by some egg for higher protein. I'm careful to keep the water dish filled. Anything else I should be doing?

Be careful with the water dish. I have never had chukar, but I know that quail are really bad about drowning in their water!

I think I would pick up a chick or two to raise with the little guy for company.

I'm glad he found you, sounds like he made the right choice...showing himself to you.

I always ask about friends for the single chick, cuz it kills me when i end up with one chick and no hen to care for it. the peeping alone makes me want to scream. LOL.
Cant wait to see pics of it as it grows, sounds like you are doing all the right things.
