My neighbor found this chicken in their yard yesterday which is the strangest thing I ever heard of since I live in a small beach community on the jersey shore. As far as I know, I'm the only one around who has chickens. I've heard of finding a stray cat but chicken???

I think it's an easter egger and i'm nervous that it's a roo, which my town doesn't allow. I also think it's young since it's feathers at the top of the legs are still kind of downy which also makes me nervous since the comb is much more developed than my other EE at that age. The neck feathers, the tail feathers, I'm thinking roo although I'd LOVE to be wrong.

    Any thoughts?

It's an EE cockerel! Someone didn't want another Roo so they let it go most likely! So sad:(

    That's the saddest thing ever! You're sure it's a cockerel? 100%?

That's an Easter egger cockerel, and his gender is quite likely the reason he was a-wandering. You can advertise him to give away, humanely put him down, or see if your local animal shelter takes chickens.

He is pretty. I love his beard and coloring. That's a bummer you can't keep him. Try posting an ad on Craigslist to give him away for free. I'm sure you will find someone who wants him. A lot of people like having a rooster around.

Advertise on this website! I'm sure a lot of people here would love to take him off your hands. :)

thanks. i would love to keep him. i've always wanted a roo. i can't believe someone would let him loose rather than put an ounce of effort in. what a cowardly and cruel thing to do.
