Okay.... So recently 4 of my 8 hens have been making this weird position when I open the coop or go in the run. They sort of hunker down, and spread their wings out. They stay put for about 10 seconds and then carry on. They do this again when I pet them. It sort of looks like they're about to poop. lol!

Does this behavior have anything to do with egg laying? They have yet to lay an egg. They are 22 weeks and I'm anxiously awaiting the first one!

Thanks for Any Help!

That's called squatting! Technically it's what they would do for a rooster when he asks to mate, but it's also a sign eggs are on the way :)

They are squatting for you (the rooster) for mating. It is a sign that they are sexually mature for mating, and with sexual maturity comes eggs. So yes, it means eggs for you soon.
