What are my Orpingtons?

Hello! We just bought several chicks a couple weeks ago, and I’m not sure we got what we asked for. We were supposed to have gotten Orpingtons, and I assumed them to be Buff due to their orangey coloring, but as they’re growing they just don’t look like an Orpington to me! We also bought a couple Rhode Island Reds, but I can’t even tell the difference from the “Orpingtons”. I am very new to chickens, so I wanted to ask for another opinion. Can someone please look at the pictures of my chicks and tell me what you think? I just want to know exactly what we have.

Hmmm. Definitely no buffs in there. Are their legs yellow/orange or white/pink?

I didn’t think they were. Their feathers are very spotty and different colored. Do you know what they could be?

They look like production reds to me.


Bummer they aren't orpingtons.

They look to be Rhode Island Red/production red. Their feathers will come in the correct color once they get older.

Not Buff Orps and Red Orps are kinda rare. I'd say you have Production Reds.
