When I was growing up we had certain foods that we HAD to eat on New Years Day.

I can only remember 2 of them:

Collards (My absolute FAVORITE YUMMMMYYY): Helps you get money in the new year
Black eyed peas: For luck in the new year

I think we had potatos and turkey and other stuff too, I just can't remember for some reason.

Tonight I'm cooking king crab legs for me, a T bone for DH, steamed veggies and baked potatos.

We are having Marie Calendar's Chicken pot pie (sorry) and a salad. Had our black-eyed peas last night. As we were standing in front of the pot pies in the freezer section my husband said "Mac, I sorta feel bad eating something that has our favorite chicken's name, Potpie..." We looked at the turkey and the beef ones then....nope, didn't want to chance it. Now we just say "chicken pies." In some wierd way it makes if okay.

Pasta, ice cream and chocolate of course! Not necessarily in that order. (truth be told, already had some of each but not done yet! [IMG]). vegetarian fare...............

BJ roo and hen Annie eat more healthy than I - they had their regular chicken food but also a bit of organic multigrain bread, warmed cut up tomatoes, a bit of grape and blueberry first thing, sunflower and millet seeds and some scratch first thing and before bed. While free ranging a bit today Annie found and inhaled a bunch of worms in the muddy earth - we'll be in a deep freeze starting tomorrow so she won't have that option then.

BYC is such a temptation! - supposed to be working right now but this was more fun.[IMG]

My family enjoyed a delicious lunch of pork & saurkraut, potaoes & carrots, mashed potatoes, raisin bread, homemade applesauce, and cookies today. Dad and I promptly worked our lunch off by going on the local "Chilly" bike ride. [IMG]

Cornbread and homemade vegetable & lamb soup. DH has a bad cold so he asked for soup...but there's homegrown black-eyed peas in it!

Have a crockpot of Rotel/velveeta/hamburger dip going and some good chips. Also lunch meat, lettuce, tomatoes and bread for sandwiches. Cooked a big breakfast around 10 this morning and the traditional blackeyes and greens for a late lunch. Now everyone can snack around whenever they get hungry and it's not a big production for the cook! [IMG]
