Bought 5 turkey poults at my local farm store last week. 2 BBW and 3 that were supposed to be Narragansetts. My woefully ignorant self has finally come to the conclusion that they are not Narragansetts. Totally wrong color. Then I thought they might be Black Spanish, but they're feathering in with an awful lot of white on their wings. Can someone help me out, please? The store generally orders from Ideal and Mt Healthy, if that's helpful.

It has been a while since I raised some black Spanish so I can't remember if they get white on the wings initially. They do resemble black Spanish poults, they also could be mottled black. It takes a few months for them to get their adult feathers, so first feathers aren't always what the final feathers will look like.

Really? You do realize they are turkey poults and not chickens don't you?

Thank you! Someone else suggested mottled black but I can't figure out how my feed store would have gotten ahold of them, since they only order from the 2 hatcheries I mentioned. Regardless, they're adorable and super friendly...they already fly up out of the brooder to snuggle on my shoulder as soon as I take the cover off, so we'll be keeping them no matter what they turn out to be. It's the not knowing that drives me nuts, tho. Lol

Here's a couple of updated pics from today. Lots of white coming in. And the littlest one looks like her color is fading to a grayish-blue, almost.
