We found this little one running through our yard - towards its doom! Poor baby. Now what? No clue where it came from. Our grandbaby named it "Lemonade" and has claimed it. Browsing pics, it seems it is a gosling, not a duck??? And if it is Canadian, it is illegal to keep??????? We are so worried about how to take care of this little one - and where to go from here - so HELP please. (tried calling local wildlife places and no response..........)
    Thank you in advance!

Yep, Canada gosling. Illegal to keep in Missouri I know. Most likely in other states also.

Well darn - We have had no success at contacting any agency. We have called every number we can find and they are either closed or disconnected. Frustrating.
Thank you Gray Farms, for answering.

What a cutie. I would, if all else fails, call the local sheriff's dept and ask them for contact information for the local game warden/conservation dept. emergency number. They have to have something on record to handle calls like yours. In the meantime, some game bird grower crumbles and water should tide the little one over till you can figure out what to do with him.

If you find it is illegal to keep him, you might be able to find a wildlife rehab. person that can take over for you.

No sign of the parents? Canada Geese have been known to nest a distance away from water and walk their new babies to the nearest lake and or pond. There is usually water nearby when they nest so you might want to check if you have a pond or lake nearby to see if there is a family there with chicks the same size as the one you found.

I think as far as your grand baby is concerned, you might find yourself looking for a couple of new family members in the shape and form of a pair of Pekin Ducks to replace the little gosling if you have to give Lemonade up.

We have called fish & game, we have called nature center, we have called........and called...
1 place left.. keeping paper trail. Only 1 got back and said to put it back in the street............
We have been listening for the call of the geese... no nearby water per say... We are 99.9% sure the mom was killed. We will keep her safe until we can find a safe place for her.
