This is Travis (daughter named him) a feral rooster that hangs in our yard off and on since he was a chick.
He is one of many feral chickens we’ve had in our yard off and on as we live in Hawaii and they are practically endemic here. Most are game fowl descendants and game fowl mixes. I remember Travis‘s mom was a game hen, but that doesn’t mean she’s the one that laid the egg he hatched out of. He looks very different from the other game type roosters we see around. I know he’s a mixed breed but curious if any of you savvy folks out there can contribute to what he may be? I find his color quite interesting with almost an exchequer or mottled pattern on his chest, it is not laced, and the dilute straw coloring of his saddle and hackle feathers.
He moves very carefully and slowly, is wary but not skittish like the game roosters are. Reminds me most of my Orpington in demeaner anyway. He has been hanging out off and on since he was a chick so I know he doesn’t belong to anybody.
Since the other chickens he used to hang out with have disappeared, he’s been spending more time hanging out in our yard. Our chickens are in an enclosed coop/run and they get free range time under supervision. He never hangs around when our rooster is out.
