How old would it be to have a muff and a beard? If its not that does anyone have any other ideas?

They are born with the muff and beard. Could be a Booted Bantam.

ditto on Matt - I have one right now - 8 Mille Fleur and one porcelin.

Matt - since you know about show chickens - how soon can you tell if a bird has good markings?

Here is the face of my porcelain - she [IMG] is 3 days old. See how she has puffy cheeks.

Ok dumb question time!! Is a Mille Fluer OEGB different than a Mille Fluer De Uccle? And what is a booted bantam? Is that a breed or does that mean something is not right about the color or something? [IMG]

A booted Bantam is a breed and from what I can tell the difference is that they dont have muffs and they do have wattles-where as the DUccle has muffs and no wattles

Mille Fleur is a color, however many people just call mille fleur D Uccles, Mille Fleurs. Which is also not "proper". [IMG]

I misspoke when I said a mille fleur OEGB, the proper name for the color is spangled, although from what I can tell there is pretty much no difference in the actual color.

ETA: And to top that off, there is the speckled sussex chicken. Speckled is the color. Sussex the breed. From what I can tell it is the same color as mille fleur and the same color as spangled.

Usually I think they say the color of the chicken first, then the breed of chicken. (ie:Buff Orpington, Blue Orpington, Black Orpington,,,)
