So Monday I got 5 chicks from tractor supply. They seemed a little crazy that day with the chick labeling because they had one tub labeled "cochins" but none of them had feathered feet. I didn't get those but it made my faith in the hatcherys labeling go down. I got a California White, a mystery lone tiger chick in with the California Whites, a pheonix, a yellow chick that might be a Cubalaya because apparently those were in with the phoenixes, and a red chick that was in with the phoenix and cubalayas as well. There all so sweet and get along great so I would really love to know more about them and so far tractor supply hasn't emailed me back about them so.

Your really big yellow one appears to be a cornish cross, a meat bird. That one will need to be harvested at six or eight weeks of age, or its rapid growth will cause it to have a heart attack and die, or its legs will simply no longer be able to support its weight, unless you put it on a strict restricted diet and even then it will probably only make it to a year old before dying.

The rest I am unsure of.

but he is so sweet and like a mom to the little ones.....is there something specific I can look up to try to help him stay healthy? We've gotten pretty attached to him. We unoriginally named him Big Bird.

    Out to pasture
Even with food restriction and having them free range with other birds, I don't believe any have lived to a 1 yr. but, sometimes you can get an egg or two from them. It's really so sad.

I agree but I thought Easter Eggers had green feet though? I defiantly don't know what I'm talking about though so I could be wrong!

My EE had yelloish legs when I got them but they turn that greenish gray over the last 4 weeks. But this my first EE. Been wanting some for awhile though
