It's a Darth Vader (not the technical term). I'm not sure of the 'real' name, but it is some type of redbreasted. [IMG]

Actually it is a Red Breasted. Darth Vader is a term used to describe Red Breasted in the extreme where the females are mostly cream with very little brown flecking and the males have a solid black head with no thin white line for a bib. This one appears to be a regular Red Breasted. Right now it looks to be a female. Watch the vent area and if it develops reddish feathers there it is a male. All chicks look like female for the first couple of weeks. You have a very cute one there!!

Quote:I just assumed it was a Darth Vader. I have a pair of redbreasted, and they weren't that white looking ever. The hen is kind of caramel colored with brown on her, and I don't remember the male ever looking like that! The Darth Vader's usually have a lot of white on them, that's why I thought that's what it was.

Quote:There is such an extreme from Red Breasted to what is called Darth Vader and lots in between. If you notice on this chick there is still down on the front of it that is yellow. Maybe that is what is making you think there is more white or really cream than there is? Either way it is just a Red Breasted. A "Darth Vader" is really just a Red Breasted that has tons of cream and not a lot of brown.

Even Garrie Landry will tell you that. He used to think that Darth Vader was caused by the Golden Pearl gene being intermixed with Red Breasted but he now believes that there are just different extremes in the Red Breasted from being like the Darth Vader and being mostly cream to hardly any brown to being mostly brown with just a little cream. Make sense or confuse everyone more, LOL??!

Button quail colors are just plain confusing!! Some of them aren't, but some are impossible for me!! I still don't know if I have silvers, ivories, or slates. I'm thinking I have ivories and silvers, but idk!! It's too darned hard! [IMG]
