What color is this?

Hi!

I wonder if someone can help me with what color this is. They are button quails and about 4 weeks now and i doesn't recognize the color really because of the markings on the chest feathers.

I don't know about button quail but they're sure cute

I love the ugly stages of bird development, hehe!

Hmm.. Mine just went to bed and I don't wan't to wake them up to compare. But I think yours look very much like my wild colored ones. Of course I have no good chest pictures of them :/ But I do have this pic of wild colored chicks from last year:

You can see the same markings on the two in the front, even though they are only a couple of weeks old. The markings will disappear once they get their adult feathers. I think yours are simply wild colored, but there might of course be some other mutation in there somewhere.

I also think all animals are kind of the cutest when they are "ugly" or different.

thanks, now when they are a few weeks older they are starting to look like the "wild colored" mostly... there are some sort of mutation as you say involved.
