what do ppl mean

What do ppl mean in there breeding programs f1. F2. F3. F4. F5 and so on i don't know what they mean i have an idea like the chicks from the mother and farther are f1s

F1 is the first generation cross of usually two very different parents, usually. But in general it is the first gen from the original parent stock.


F2 normally means the product of F1 x F1 but people very often mean the second generation, however I believe it technically means the product of F1 x F1.

Same goes for F3, F4, whatever.

F2 can also be the offspring of an F1 back to the opposite gender parent.

F stands for fillial

Parents can be referred to as P1.
