What do y'all think you'd get if you mixed a Beilfelder rooster and black Black Australorp hen?

I appreciate it!!! Gonna be lost I guess when they all start laying, problem is I keep buying, and I keep hatching...
It's so addictive!

Once January hits, I'll start hatching silkies again. In 2025, I hatched over 500, kept about a dozen, and sold the rest. About 350 of those eggs were mine, and the rest were purchased and shipped here.

I drool walking by the incubators...it's going to be a long two months for me!

That's the problem with me, it's the incubators, the not knowing 😂 didn't know you could sell them though 🤔 guess I'd have be to find someone that wanted chickens... But right now everyone's getting free eggs from me 🤦 probably won't want any. 500 is definitely a ton 👀 I could only imagine... I was thinking about getting some silkies, haven't found any locally though.

I have 3 Brinsea 56EX, which hold 64 silkie eggs. Two incubate, the third is a hatcher. I stagger hatch, so every 5 days as some go to the third one for lockdown, I add a couple dozen to replace them. I was selling them as fast as I could hatch them, and this is rural Wisconsin.

I'd think you could sell your chicks too, as doesn't everyone want laying hens? Most males would wind up in the freezer.

If you don't mind, can you explain the black barring stuff, leakage, and all... I know, I know... 110 chicken and I have no clue what that means 😂 but I'm just doing the chicken thing for the neighborhood, and I give away 50 to 60 eggs just about every day. Also run a pretty big garden that I give most the vegetables away. Barring mean stripes?
In simple terms...
Leakage is when you get some color showing on a solid bird. Usually because it's a mix of patterns.. In your case look at it as having your biel pattern then placing your austa pattern (black) on top of it. Black is dominate but since it's mixed it has trouble completely hiding the pattern underneath and some of it shows through.
Males biels have a lot more color so more will show.
Yes barring is stripes. Barring takes away color so that's what causes the white stripes. Barring can be on any color or pattern and your rooster will pass that gene to all his chicks so even blacks or blacks with leakage will have the stripping.

Awesome!!! I appreciate that for sure. Like I'm a big dummy when it comes to that kinda stuff. You'd think I wouldn't be with as many chickens I have, but I started about 8 months ago. Got everything down, or so I think. I'm sure there's probably more... I'm still so curious, I gotta try 🤷 I'm sure many people have mixed stuff together, but find it virtually impossible to find pictures.

I dunno, that's another problem, I don't think I could dispatch any I have 😭 I am kinda strange to though, I love getting the eggs they produce and giving them away. So to sell ones laying, I would feel like my child went into foster care. Been only doing it 8 months, I buy 350 pounds of feed a month, guess I'd just feel bad of they didn't take care of them. I put 18 in the incubator the first time, hatched out 15. Gave someone 10, and they didn't listen to a thing I said and in 4 days she told me they all died. That lady had them running loose in her house, made my heart cry. I should've just kept those. As for selling them, I may investigate it. I have 7 kids and the ones laying are staying 😂 seems like I need to take some hatching lessons from you 😂 that's a lot of work and thinking...

You should probably get a cabinet incubator so you can really get serious.
