I have 2 lavender Orpington roos for my 20 something flock of hens. Curious what happens if you breed the lavender Orpington rooster with Blue Australorp hen.

Also, has anyone bred lav Orpington roo with salmon faverolle hen?

Curious what happens if you breed the lavender Orpington rooster with Blue Australorp hen.

50% black, 50% blue offspring.. 50% of those will be carrying the lavender gene hidden.

But when it pops up chicks may be white and look splash.

The lav will breed as black when bred to other colors like salmon or blue... so for salmon you will get black chicks with some leakage most likely. A link to the chicken color calculator.. 2nd drop down tab is in English..

Bearding and feathered legs may be dominant or partly dominant. Also the 5 toes.

This is the basics of what I can remember.. but I do get jumbled sometimes. I'm sure you will get more informative feedback!

Thank you! So technically what ‘breed’ is the Orpington/australorp combo?

Crossing a Lavender Orpington to a Black Australorp results in a mixed bird. They'll either be black or blue. All babies will carry the Lavender gene. Daughters bred back to their father will throw Lavender chicks. They are not a breed. They are mutts. Although kinda related since Australorps were created in Australia from Orpingtons. You could in theory produce a bird you could call a Lavender Australorp in a few years if you chose to go that route, although with the quality of the typical Lavender Orpington, I'm not sure most people would be able to tell the difference.

Nothing to add but can we take a minute to recognize this awesome stink eye photo bomb 🤣
