Did you want comments on this roo or ALL silkies??

IF it's this roo: Maybe you should edit your post to read 'what do you like or dislike about THIS Silkie"..

IF it's all silkies: I am no Silkie expert, I have no knowledge of them, I just don't like their feathers, their size/shape, their top hat... I do not want to offend any one, I just do not like Silkies... I do not see what the hype is all about...

I much prefer a heavy breed chicken--even in the bantams: I LOVE Bantam Cochins, BR, RIR, Brahma, Wyandotte,Orpingtons, NHR --I also love the Japanese...

Dixie--it wouldn't do for us all to like the same breed of chicken---then there'd be a shortage, and other breeds would just fade away.
Me--I LOVE SILKIES. Why? They have the best personalities : they're quiet, gentle, affecionate. They're not good flyers (most don't fly at all) making it easy to keep them in their pen. They thrive in confinement--so I don't need HUGE areas for them to forage in. True--I need to "protect" them more than I do my layers, because they don't see as well (due to their crests), can't run as fast (feather feet/legs), and they have sensitive heads.
Of course the best part is : they're so darn cuddly!!! all that soft, kitty fur...

Dixiedoodle Thank you I fixed it. I'm looking at this silkie and want to know what would make his look better for the next on. He is sitting down so it's a little harder to see.

I got some self-blue silkies last year and brooded them with a turkey poult. Turkey has decided that the silkies are her babies. The two silkies--- one a rooster and one a hen--- are very sweet. Although I did have a black silkie rooster years ago that used to attack me all the time--- he did it one time too many and he became a chicken dinner....

I did not realize about them being non-flyers until I let the chickens and turkey out of their pen while I moved the pen. At night, the turkey led the chickens to roost in a tree. The poor silkie babies slept on a tree-stump because they couldn't get up as high as their turkey-mama did (and it was not that high).... So now I'm going to build them a new pen similar to the one I'm building for the ducks without netting on the top since they are non-flyers.

Nissa, I LOVE cats too!!!

If at all possible I suggest putting a net/wire/top on the Silkies pen.
They make super targets fot the hawks and the owls, plus other critters can climb or jump over and harm them.
I have wire top on my pen and EVEN so I came out one morning to find this visitor!
The second pic of is of him hanging on the top wire, glaring at me!!! YIKES!
They are cat lovers too, but not exactly like us!

Sonrise....Thank you for sharing these photos !!!

I know you don't want that fellow getting to your birds, but what an awesome creature he is !! Absolutely stunning.

Thanks again for sharing !!

It is hard to tell about his overall shape since he is setting down. His cushion looks nice and he has great feathering on his feet. Does he have 5 toes with good spacing?

Looks pretty nice to me.
