    My Coop
I think that's a hard one to answer. If you could post your location, that would help a lot to give you our opinions. Different climates call for slightly different approaches. So do different amounts of property available to build on, different budgets, and different goals for your flock.

I like my shed roof coop with our offset hoop run. But you might not like that idea. So the best suggestion I can give is to spend some time looking at all the different builds in the Coops section of BYC Here is the link, but it's pretty easy to find - just click on the word "Coops" on the top of the home page:

    https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

Folks have bought sheds from home improvement stores or ads and reconfigured them very successfully. Some have used kid's play sets or swing sets. Some find coops on Craigs List. Some, like hubby and I, just start building and making it work as we go along. I do love our hoop run - cheap and cheerful, and so easy to do. You are welcome to click on the words "My Coop" under my avatar and follow along with our build.

Not much help as far as cut-and-dried answer to your question, but I've found that building a coop is an adventure all onto itself and it's much easier to go into your planning with a ton of ideas....take one from here, another from that one, and yet a third from a different coop all together. Or just find one you like and go for it! Good luck!
