What does it mean if there is blood in an egg?

I cracked open one of my bantam eggs and there was blood inside. what does that mean? All my chickens are 6 months old and to the best of my knowledge there are no roosters.

Blood spots happen from time to time and are not an indicator of a fertile egg. They occur when a blood vessel ruptures in the ovary or oviduct.
