What gender are my Australorps?

Hi all,

Months ago we bought some Isabrown’s and two Australorps (as the breeder didn’t have any other Isabrowns at the time).

We found the Australorps temperaments to be quite vicious from the get go. They would frequently stand up to each other and do this circling “dance” which I’ve never seen my other girls do.

I’ve had suspicions about the Australorps being male but wasn’t sure. Now that they’re older they’re head and shoulders larger than one of our other (existing) full adult chickens. They have other more distinct features that I’ve not seen before in my isabrowns.

So now I’d love it if anyone could either confirm or deny my suspicions.

Both are roosters. They have the rooster tails, and that one that has the red coloring in the wing's tell's me that he is not a pure Australorp, and his leg coloring seem's a bit off also!

Edit: I was raising Australorp's before I switched over to working with the Naked Necks.

Ah there you go. Yeah they are some sort of cross which I couldn’t remember the name of.

Disappointing given we just wanted girls. Thanks for the info though!

What was it about the naked necks that made you switch from the Australorps by the way?

I live in the desert and our summer's get very hot here. The Naked Necks are a bigger dual-purpose bird than the Australorp's are, but they have less feathering and handle our heat better because of it. They also lay eggs well. As a butchering bird, they are also easier that way too, as you don't have all of the neck feathers to have to cut though.

Handsome young man on the red-shouldered individual. As for the other, I can't get a good view of the saddle area. How old are they?
