hi there! I have some bantams that I do not know the gender or breed of. I got them from Family Center/ Tractor Supply. Thanks for your help!

#1 gray bantam - solid dark grey as a chick then started to get the lighter feathers while growing up. Male or female? - Family Center

#2 black bantam- had chipmunk markings as a chick, but turned solid black. Has a tiny bit of brown now on wings and a very long tail. Hasn't crowed yet (the silver duckwing rooster in the picture is crowing) and has small waddles. Male or female? - Family Center

#3 silkie - what is the name for it's color? Has a darker tail than the body. Male or female? - Family Center

Thank you so much for your help! I appreciate it!

1 and 2 are cockerels. Black "with leakage" and a Blue Birchen, can't see the combs good enough to determine breed though Old English are the most common from hatcheries.

I'm not seeing the Silkie.

Thank you so much!!!!

Whoops, thought that the silkie was in that picture. Here's one with it!

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your help!

Thanks so much! How can I tell the gender of the silkie? If its a rooster, will he have a long tail? Thanks!

No he won't. Silkies are notoriously hard to sex when they are young. Look for streamer in the back of the crest, rapidly growing or large comb, and wattles "if non-bearded". These are early signs of being a cockerel.

what if NEW SILKIE 001.JPG NEW SILKIE 003.JPG the wattles are very small on a 13 week old silkie..could it still be a roos..i also have a silkie rescue it has to be a few months old, has no wattles at all, and does squat ...ill post a pic of it again
