Hey guys so I have a hen sitting a bunch of eggs at the moment and they should arrive very soon Im getting ready for them by stocking up on chick starter as I'm living in the city in Ireland where there isn't any farming supplies on my doorstep anyway I've managed to order some chick starter but want to get my hands on grit too but not sure what one is suitable for the chicks as there doesn't seem to be a chick grit anywhere
I've always given my hens limestone grit and it's always worked just fine would I be able to give that to the chicks if I were to grind it up a little smaller
    Thanks for the help

Theres no need to bother about grit as mum will take her chicks out and about and they'll get the grit they need from pecking around in the soil. If you choose to keep them in the coop for a while before letting mum and chicks out, then no grit is needed for starter food. Personally, i leave the decision when and where to take the chicks to mum - they know what their chicks needs are a lot better than us humans [IMG] I have never had a need to add grit to the diet of my chickens, as they get what they need by doing their thing around the garden. Even if you keep you flock in a run, its still ok providing theres some soil around.

    All the best

    thanks for the help
I was going to let tikka look after the babies herself and give them full access to the run so that's perfect that I don't have to worry about extra grit for them
