What happened to my baby?

I posted this under what breed or gender is this, but I think it might go better here. I apologize for the double.

This is Pac, my Dominique roo from a few weeks ago.

You can see he doesn't look too bad. Nice Dom coloring, rose comb (a bit beefy for some tastes), very nice U shape to his back. Today I was watching him run around and he grew THIS:

That's a disqualification, isn't it? Any idea why he threw something like that?? I'm upset about it.

I would bet money every show person that has shown much has plucked at least one off colored feather, that is the least of it...

LOL! Yeah, I was talking about the dark colored feather. I would hate to be freaking out about the stripes, huh?

Is it okay to rip the feather off? I thought that was cheating.

As a show bird though I'd worry more about him having a more gamey body than him having a single non-barred feather.
