    I can't have roosters. [IMG]

But I would love to be able to get feathers that are long, colorful and beautiful.
Any breed of hens out there that can compete with roosters in the feather department? [IMG]

    Thanks so Much! [IMG]

Phoenix girls can have long tails, but they can't hold a candle to what their male counterparts grow.

some good quality long tail breed hens can get the tail length but most hens don't get the saddle feathers or colors of roosters

roosters are by far always gonna be very nice looking but you can get some very pretty mixed breed hens but still no hen can compare to the coloring of a rooster. for the most parts hens will not get the long tails like roosters get. there are breeds out the such as phoenix's were the hens can get an ok length of tail.

There are some really colorful hens but they usually are mixes and not show quality... Like a Calico Cochin.

I have a mottled Houdan and her plumage is gorgeous. She doesn't have the feather length that roosters have, but her crest and colouring makes up for that!

I think Silver Spangled Hamburgs, Silver Ameraucanas, all patterned Wyandottes, and most Easter Eggers are all really pretty hens, as well as any Porcelein colored or Mille Fleur chickens.

Some of my Easter Egger hens have gorgeous long "hackle" feathers that glow almost as much as their male counterparts...I use them to make earings.
