I bought buff orpingtons and got a changeling and have been trying to figure out what he is. On my post "wanna guess the roosters'? somebody said he may be a red sex link. He is different in coloring not just on the feathers and the skin, his legs are also orange (think ducks). I can't find any buff orpingtons anywhere that are white feathers with red splashes and orange legs. Link below has his pic (he's the ones not numbered) What is a red sex link, how do they come about, since I wanted BO's can I use him for breeding with my hens? He's very sweet and actually calmer than the BO roos, if you catch him and put him on your arm or hand he will just sit there. I'm quite fond of him.

Red sex-links are a cross between a Rhode Island Red or New Hampshire rooster and a White Rock, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Rhode Island White or Delaware hen.

If you cross a red roo with a white hen you get chicks that are easy to sex by color at birth. The boys will be yellow chicks and the girls will be red.

Not 100% true.
It would have to be Gold Rooster over a Silver (not White) Hen to produce a Red sex-link.
Crossing a Gold Rooster over a "White" Hen as in a White Leghorn or White American Game Fowl will not produce a Red sex-link.
