in 100 eggs or chicks you should get 50/50 female to male...

in my experience its more of 2/98 female to male...

Just lucky I guess... or other ppl that can tell a female from male stole all the females by time I get there...

Straight run chicks means that none of the chicks are sexed prior to
filling your order. Some breeders and hatcheries will make it a point not to
look, and some who offer straight run chicks will try to make an effort
to keep the rooster to hen ratio to aaround 50% if possible.
Some breeds are also very difficult to sex at such an early age.

that is what I was thinking....unless you are able and willing to cull ie: put them in the freezer you better buy sexed! I bought 29 last year and over half....like 16 were roosters.

"Straight Run" is what the sign says on the chick bin that you do not want to reach into! LOL!

It's much easier (albeit not without risk either) to get sexed pullets.
