What is the minimum to let shipped eggs "rest"?

I have 2 broodies, and 2 different shipments coming tomorrow. My mail normally runs between noon and 2pm. If I let them rest (I know with the big side up) until dark, 9-10 pm, will that be long enough?

I've gotten eggs in the morning around 10 and let them set till 10P.M. and they did well, also have put them in the bator after 24 hours, and they did equally well. It didn't make a big difference for me. I've never just thrown them in either, so I don't know how they would do that way though. Lol Good luck!

I was thinking of trying that next (not turning for a few days). Does it help the detached air cells re-attach at least some?

I was told that if you give the embryos time to grow some before they are moved very much they be be strong enough to stay intact. I tried it with these last 2 batches of eggs and hatched 8 out of 12 and 10 out of 12. That is by far the best i have ever done on shipped. I will have to say the air cells were in better shape when they got here than most i have received.

How is an embryo going to grow if it's not being incubated, either under a hen or in an incubator. Letting an egg rest isn't going to let the embryo develop.

I've rested from 2 hours to 2 weeks.

For me it's more important to let the eggs come to room temp before
putting in the bator, especially if they were shipped during cold weather.

I guess i didn't make myself clear. Letting the embryo grow in the incubator without turning for a few days will allow it to strengthen before it is moved very much in the turning process.

Danny, I know what you are saying, but it's really irrelevant here. I'm putting the eggs under my hens, and I'm talking about them resting from shipping. They will never be in an incubator.

Hi Patti!
6 or 8 hrs 'resting' should be gracious plenty.

Look what T&C said this morning!
