This has taken up residence on my coop this morning. It has webbed feet. Is it a loon? Hoping this is temporary! He seems afraid of the geese so he stays on top of the chicken run.

I bet it's someone's Muscovy cross that flew away and your coop reminds it of home! Poor baby!

Wasn't someone on here missing hers?

That's a muscovy duck and there's a lot of feral ones in your area. You can catch it and keep it if you like because the government considers them a nuisance and are exterminating them. They lay lots of eggs. You either have a female and a young male there (of course, the male won't lay any eggs [IMG] )

I think he's a beautiful color! I love the black ones.

It's a muscovy and judging by body type and size, I'm guessing that it is a hen.

That's a pretty muscovy duck. If it didn't belong to anyone, I would keep it if I were you [IMG]

As has been said, it is a muscovy. Since it flew in, it is almost certainly a female. They are ducks, not geese, although they are not closely related to most ducks; they are a form of tree duck. Very quiet birds who LOVE to eat mosquitos and flies. They hiss rather than quack.
