A sex link is a hybrid of 2 breeds which can be sexed by sight due to different coloring in chicks, and adults. There are red and black sex links, with different breed combinations used to create each hybrid. In general most are known for high egg production.

A sex link is a hybrid of 2 breeds which can be sexed by sight due to different coloring in chicks, and adults. There are red and black sex links, with different breed combinations used to create each hybrid. In general most are known for high egg production.

Black sex links result from a non barred male breed over a barred female breed. Male chicks inherit barred genetics from the hen and hatch with a head spot, females receive no barring gene and hatch with no head spot. At maturity makes are barred while females are black with some "leakage"....color that shows at the collar and in varying amounts over the body.
Hens produce large, brown eggs in high numbers.
One important note regarding sex links is that the sex linkage is a first generation characteristic only. What this means is you cannot breed a sex link to a sex link and hatch more sex link chicks.
