I found these ion the middle of poop on the poop board. Donning gloves, I washed off the PDZ granules. I thought it might be in digested plant matter of some kind, but it feels meat-like.

Of note, coincidental or not, The hens have been on Amprolium feed for 2 days now since we lost a rooster to coccidia.

Any ideas what the heck this is?!?!

My guess is that they are shedding some damaged intestinal lining that may have been caused by the coccidiosis. As they regain their health, that should stop. [IMG]

Really? That seems like huge, entire pieces of their intestine then! How shocking! :) Poor things. :-(

I broke it open -- is this intestine-like?

Very much so. It is good that it is out of the bird.If they are being treated properly, they will be ok. [IMG]

As long as it's not lash egg, you should be fine!

Actually, after some research last night, I think that's EXACTLY what this was! I emailed the photos to my avian vet and he said it was not intestine.

Keep an eye on that hen! Lash egg is a sign of previous infection (among other things) & can result in death.

Well heck! I thought lash eggs were full of pus, yolk ect. Never too late to learn.....I know intestinal lining can be shed with cocci but apparently not like that!
To the OP, sorry for getting that wrong, hope your chicken's underlying illness isn't too bad. [IMG]
