Found this on the web somewhere and I love this chicken mamma. Anyone know what kind of a mix it is?
Looks like a sillkie mix to me
Looks similar to one of these:
Quote:Could be.....but If it was, it should have muffs/beard, right?
It could easily be a cross from a crested breed (polish/houdan/sultan/spitzhauben/silkie/etc)
If it's a pure bred, think it's a Old Polish Crested. The crest is very similar to pics I've seen. Very rare breed. I would LOVE to have some...
I believe it is a silkie/RIR mix. I don't like silkies but mix it with anything else and I'm in love!
Oh, that IS a dear Mama!
I've never heard of this, but I think the picture looks similar to a Catalana .
Quote:Catalana don't have crests, do they?
Got me. Of all the chickens featured on the chicken breed page the Catalana looks most like the Sweet Mama pictured by the OP. I don't see that much of a crest.
Catalanas don't have crests, have white earlobes, have slate legs, and are very rare.
The pictured hen is a mutt; Likely with Polish or Silkie in her. If you see her toes at the bottom, they're very dark in color.
Also notice - The chicks have 5 toes.
Thanks for your ideas. I thought the face looked silkie-ish myself but wasn't sure. I don't like silkies though... But this one appears to have real feathers and doesn't double as a dust mop.
