Hello,

My speckled sussex has developed an issue with her eye over the last two days…there is dirt crusted around it which I assume is from discharge, and now it seems to be getting more inflamed with redness in and around her eye. Photos are attached. Only one eye seems to be affected at the moment. Any help with what this might be and how to treat?? Thanks in advance!

She might have something in her eye causing infection and drainage, or it could be a sign of a respiratory disease such as MG. I would try to clean the eye with saline eye wash or a similar product. Clean the outer eyelids as well. Then apply a small dab of Terramycin eye ointment twice a day if you can get some at the feed store. In a pinch, I have used plain Neosporin ointment. Feed stores also sell eye gels, such as Vetericyn. The antibiotic ointment would be better for anninfection.

Thank you for your help! It is clearing up with saline cleanse and antibiotic ointment so it must have been a wound or debris. 😊
