Here- https://the-chicken-chick.com/how-hen-makes-egg-egg-oddities/ Scroll down a ways and you will see a photo of your egg's twin. Whether you need to be concerned or not depends on the age of the hen that laid it. New layers pop out some strange mutant eggs while getting the science down. Older layers may lay an egg like that if they are stressed or are sick with an infection.

The shell division of the egg making factory seems a little wonky... is this a pullet who just started laying? If so, it isn't too unusual. If the hen has been laying for awhile, I would watch her more closely. There are a bunch of factors that may contribute to the problem.

curious to know... was the inner egg normal? I once got an egg that was totally soft shelled and inside was normal, followed the hen and all seemed good, hen was three at the time and in good health. still not sure of the abnormality.

  7. I think that your hen has a defective shell gland, probably the result of a disease.

I have P1010003.JPG a Welsummer that laid an egg sort of like that one. My hen's egg look more like a potato. She was in her first year when she laid it, and from that point on, she has never laid anything but perfect eggs.

I’m newer to chickens so wondering if you could expand more on older chickens; our girl is about a year and a half- is that old in chicken years? Thanks for commenting.
