The words “Living Organic” come up more than expected when I talk with friends, family and co-workers. I know a lot of people who talk about living an organic lifestyle and actually consider their lifestyle “organic”. I know that everyone has their own definition as far as what they consider is living an organic lifestyle.

Some people’s organic lifestyle consists of only buying and eating “organic foods” that don’t have any pesticides, chemicals, hormones, etc and that is the only “organic” part of their livelihood. They continue to use chemicals in their hair (perms, dyes, etc) and on their body.

Other people consider living an organic lifestyle the same as far as only eating organic foods but then the spectrum widens out to things like only using organic soaps, shampoo, toothpaste, lotion, detergent, household cleaners, etc.

This thread is not about being right or wrong as far as what we or others consider living an organic lifestyle. I’m just curious as to how others define the term “organic”.

You don’t have to live an organic lifestyle to reply to this topic. Everyone has their own definition of what they think is living an organic lifestyle. I would like to hear from everyone about their thoughts. Can a person truly live an organic lifestyle and still incorporate chemicals, pesticides, perms, hair dyes, make up, finger nail polish, perfumes, etc. into their daily lives?

    Your thoughts……………….

    Interesting question, Kuntrygirl!

I've never thought about it before now. And, once I began thinking about it, there was more and more to consider.

If it were me, I don't think I would state that I had an "organic lifestyle" until I was certain that not only was all my food organic, but that my clothes were of certified organic origin and that my home was chemical free. At the least… (then one might start thinking about transportation, where one works, what stocks one holds etc, etc, etc)

That would be a very, very tall order!

I do like these questions, however, that start me thinking about what choices I make and what my priorities are currently.

Wow! Now you've got ME thinking. I didn't think about living conditions, transportation, etc. Those are excellent points. I also thought about if a person is at work and uses the restroom, what chemicals, perfumes and dyes is in the hand soap that they use. Weird of me to think about hand washing but it's something to think about. Some people use the word "organic" loosely and im sure some have not taken in consideration some of the things that you have pointed out.

    Great reply!
