What kills and leaves whole chickens behind?

I've lost two 8 month old chickens to an unknown predator in the last two weeks. In both cases, the chicken is intact, but all the tail feathers are gone. One had a puncture wound to the back and the other had scratches, but unknown cause of death. They were not missing any body parts. The two attacks occur a week and half apart. Any ideas of what could have gotten them? I live in the city, with a 5 ft fence around my back yard. Lots of trees and bushes. The chickens free range in the back yard. Feather were found both in open areas and under bushes.

Sorry for your losses. The only animals that I know that commonly kill for fun and leave the prey behind are dogs and humans. My guess in your case was a dog.

Sounds like a dog most times they do the CHASE for the fun of it, but usually dont bother with eating them.
